Oak Bay Marine Group Contest Winners
April at April Point
Myra Rajan is obviously a vacation expert - flying through our Quadra Island quiz with flying colours.
Myra won herself two nights at April Point Resort & Spa on Quadra Island.
Fishing Jargon Contest
Congrats to the following fishing gurus: Linda Coleman, Gerry Walker, Robert Colvin, Guy Jutras and Roger Bell. They demonstrated their salmon fishing know-how by acing the MV Salmon Seeker's fishing jargon contest. Each won a spiffy Oak Bay Marine Group fishing toque.
Valentine's Contest
Our hearts were warmed this Valentine's Day by an outpouring of fishy emotion. Andrew Kules from Michagan was the sweetest, and won a pair of King Salmon Resort fleeces for him and his sweetheart.
He wrote:
Roses are red
Fish have scales
If to fish measured love
We'd bring home two whales!
Nice work!
New Year's Resolution Contest
Congratulations to Gerry Walker, who entered our New Year's Resolution Contest. Gerry's resolution was one we could relate to — to catch a Tyee salmon. Gerry won two nights at Painter's Lodge where, hopefully, he can make his resolution a reality.
Find the Gear Contest
The winner of the MV Marabell’s Find the Gear contest is Wayne Shepstone, who won himself a slick Rapala Fillet Glove. Even though his catch is dressed for him on his trips to the Canadian Princess, it should still come in handy!
May Madness Contest
Congratulations to the winners of the month-long May Madness fishing derby at the Canadian Princess Resort.
The top salmon catch was a picture-perfect 32 lb. Chinook caught by John Thornton on May 23rd.
The top halibut catch was a heft 85 lb. halibut caught by Wesley Van Dusen on May 7th.
John and Wesley have both won a free trip for two to the Canadian Princess Resort in May, 2006!
Plus, Pat Kinchella from BC has one a free 7-hour halibut or salmon fishing tide for two at the Canadian Princess, just for voting!
Congratulations to you all!
Foolish for Fishing Contest
April Point Resort & Spa kicked off the season with its Foolish for Fishing Contest, where readers submitted their best fishing jokes to our discerning panel of judges.
The winners were Sylvia Parent from Ontario, Diane Luong from Victoria, Cliff Boldt from Vancouver Island, and Tom Gibson from California.
Here are two of our favourites
A man goes ice fishing and after a few hours has nothing but a cold. As he is about to leave, a young kid comes out on the ice, cut a hole, puts his line in and pulls out a fish. Puts his line back in – pulls out another, then another and another. The man walks up to the kid and says “I’ve been out here all morning and no bites, what’s your secret?” Kid says “yqwft guhtgh ta kffep yvjssr wfghomx wjfghrm.” Man – “What?” Kid – “yqwft guhtgh ta kffep yvjssr wfghomx wjfghrm.” Man – “I can’t understand what your saying.” Kid (irritated) –“Pffft (spitting into his hands), you’ve got to keep your worms worm!”
Jones went ice fishing. As he prepared to cut a hole in the ice, he heard a loud voice overhead saying, "There are no fish there!"
He moved to another location, started to cut a hole in the ice and again heard, "There are no fish there!"
"Is that you Lord?" he asked.
"No, it's the arena manager."
Crew Wear Contest
March saw 5 winners of the King Salmon Resort Crew Wear contest. Debra Shepstone, Edward Gann, Jim Nicholas, Mary Cabak and Jeffrey Kelley all won snazzy new King Salmon Resort fleece jackets. Nice work!
Free Hotel Nights
The four lucky winners of our Free Hotel Stay contest are Colin Durie from Florida, John Lynn from New Hampshire, David Heldman from Ontario, and Randy Reidlinger from Alberta. Each receive free hotel stays in Vancouver before and after their trip to one of our Northern fishing resorts. Congratulations!
Guess the Fish Weight Contest
Congratulations to Scotty Mannarino from British Columbia. He correctly guessed the weight of the fish shown here, caught last season at Painter’s Lodge in Campbell River, and won two free nights for his efforts. This beautiful Chinook weighed in at 30 lbs 5 oz .
2004 Story and Photo Contest
Congratulations to all the winners of our story and photo contest. The winning photos were published in the January, 2005 edition of the Salmon News, and Paul Gianera wrote the winning story, The Really Big One.
Paul won a brand new digital camera from Konica for sending in his story. If you’ve got a great fish tale or photo, be sure to send them in to salmonnews@obmg.com.
