The fishing is off to a promising, start at Langara Island this season. Massive schools of anchovy, needlefish and, most importantly, herring, not seen in these quantities in years, have been spotted at Langara Rocks and the Lighthouse. Orcas and Humpbacks have been entertaining our guests as they chase this bait around the island. Furthermore, water temperatures are significantly lower than in previous, mean that large salmon will be finding their way to the inshore shallows that our mooching technique traditionally targets. All these indicators predict an excellent summer at Langara.
A surprising number of large halibut have already been boated this year, and aside from the ever increasing wisdom of our team, I must credit the change from monofilament to 100 pound test Bully Braid for this prolific catch. Cheers go out to longtime friend of the ship Lori Sawatzky, for being the first member of the MV Marabell Captain’s Club, an award to honour to those who land a Tyee Chinook (over 30 lbs.). It’s going to be a great season, so book now before we fill up.
