Run of Chinook and northern Coho

Langara Island Fishing Resorts - August 5, 2007

A strong run of Chinook and northern Coho has moved into Langara over the past 24 hours, with the action centered around 25 to 35 lb. Chinook at Andrews, Cohoe and McPherson points.

MV Marabell guest Frank McLeod pulled a 35 lb. Chinook out this morning, securing the trip clock and bragging rights. The fish are sitting in 200 to 300 feet of water, with the strike zone at 70 to 90 pulls. Langara Rocks has also been strong on the low slack.

Northwest winds have shut down west-side bottom fishing recently but a new chicken farm, discovered in 180 feet of water off Pillar Bay, has allowed people to load up on smaller halibut in very short order. If these trends continue, we’re looking forward to a great August to close out a successful season at Langara.
