Last report I wrote about the bottom fishing spot south of Egeria Bay. Since then the spot has continued to produce Ling cod and rockfish, as well as both 70 and a 76 pound halibut. The spot was discovered by Reiner Graumann, who generously suggested we name it “Reiner Flats.”
We have been able to get out to the west side of Langara Island for halibut. Working offshore off Cape Knox we have seen a lot of nice fish in the 15 to 25 lbs. range as well a 41 pounder today. The whales are very active on the west side. We saw a huge pod of Orcas and two Humpbacks playing some sort of game.
Salmon fishing at Andrews Point has been excellent. Close in at first light Chinook are being taken at 10 pulls. This group already has two over 30 and lots in the 20 pound range. Later in the day the fish move deeper and offshore and the Coho start feeding. People have had success targeting Coho by leaving their boat in gear and cutting the bait for a quick spin rather than the Chinook roll.
