Reports coming out of the Queen Charlottes indicate things are heating up even more lately! On Wednesday, according to Captain Armstrong of the Charlotte Princess, they were "invaded by a wave of salmon" which resulted in one of the highest days catches of Coho and Pinks in particular that he had ever seen at Langara in 9 years. Well, today we figured out why they arrived en masse and in such a hurry. They were being chased by Springs....BIG Springs! So far today, the Charlotte Princess has had 2 in the 50's hit the docks and the Marabell has had 1 in the 50's. According to Dan Kannon, the Marabell Captain, "pretty well every boat is coming in with 2 big springs in the 35 to 50 lb range". When I asked him how many in the 40's he replied "I haven't counted them all....but lots!".
