Heading to the Land of King Fish

MV Charlotte Princess - August 3, 2011

It's always exciting when you find out your going fishing and this past Tuesday was probably the most excited I've been in a long time. Why you might ask? Well, it was announced on Tuesday that I was going fishing on the MV Charlotte Princess at Langara Island....the land of king fish!

The Haida Gwaii is one of my most favorite places to visit in Canada. It's lush forests, abundance of wildlife, clear blue waters, amazing fishing and lack of civilization allow you to truly get away from it all and experience natures essence.

I was last in the Haida Gwaii in 2008 when it was still named the Queen Charlotte Islands. Being my first time fishing, I was relieved to have a professional guide with me.  With his help, I landed a whopping 42lb. Chinook on my first day out on the water!

This will be my first time fishing without a guide and I have to admit it's a scary thought! I really want to succeed in hooking and reeling in my very own fish and make my Dad proud. What comforts me is the Reel Coaching program offered on the MV Charlotte Princess. Their expert staff will help me brush up on my rusty fishing techniques before I hit the water. I also have expert angler friends coming with me!!

With my bags now packed, it's only hours before I catch my flight out of Victoria and begin my adventure of a lifetime. Check back tomorrow to catch up on the latest from decks of the MV Charlotte Princess.
