Trip one at the MV Salmon Seeker has drawn to a close, and what a way to start a season.
Guests were rewarded with both great weather and great fishing. Three gentlemen earned their Masterfisherman Caps hauling in halibut over 100 lbs. Kim Nordberg caught a 104 lb. hali , Gary Sprague a 108 pounder and Gene Potocnik brought home a 121 lb. halibut.
Captains’ Club honors with Halibut went to Don Haring, with both 82 lb. & 78 lb. hali, Kim Nordberg with a 68 pounder and Michael Frahm with a 50 lb. fish.
Ronald Robinson netted the top salmon of the trip with a 40lb. Chinook. There were many Captains’ Club pins for Tees handed out but the story of the trip had to be the father & fon combo of Frank and Sofio Urata. They had a double header and both proceeded to land both a 39 lb. Chinook (Frank) and a 36 lb. Chinook (Sofio) at Kelp Bay.
Trip two is now underway. Dodgy weather is being tempered by some nice Tyees landed on the first day, and this morning many high 20s Chinook were brought in by noon.
