The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has just released a draft of its Salmon Stock Outlook for 2006. The report, though preliminary, shows very promising returns for both Chinook and Coho throughout the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Throughout the entire Queen Charlottes management area, Chinook received a “3/4” outlook status, indicating stable stocks “near target” or “abundant.” In the cautiosly optimistic words of the DFO, the “stock shows recent increasing trend.” For anglers, that should translate into some excellent King salmon fishing.
Queen Charlotte Islands Coho fishing, in both the north (MV Charlotte Princess and MV Marabell) and the west (MV Salmon Seeker), also received an excellent outlook, with “3/4” status. So, in between those big Kings you’ve been dreaming of, don’t forget to try drop a line for the sporty QCI Coho.
