Coho frenzy

Langara Island Fishing Resorts - July 23, 2007

Coho action has been incredibly hot in the past few days. Dropping a line anywhere yields almost instantaneous hits. They are feeding so voraciously that they will take herring heads, bare hooks or orange banana weights.

The incredible Coho action makes Chinook fishing more difficult—it is hard to get bait down past the Coho. Moving out of the strike zone, getting the bait down deep (50 to 100 pulls) and then working back in can help mitigate this problem. From there the key is to fish slowly, and hope you can dangle your bait right in front of a big, lazy Chinook.
