Charlotte Princess - Warm Weather and Great Fishin

MV Charlotte Princess - August 16, 2001

Langara Island is known for its great fishing, but this year, the warm weather is making the conditions even better. Guests continue to fight with the Coho, so thick that as long as the cut plug resembles food, a Coho is going to hit it hard! Everyone is limiting out within a few days, but as of August 15, limits are increasing on Coho to four per day and eight per trip. Chinook fishing is equally good with guests bringing in plenty in the 25-35 lb range. Halibut fishing continues to be hot, 108 lb. halibut was caught within an hour of the guest getting out of the water.

Brian Zimmermann of Westlake Village, California is no stranger to big fish. His 13-year dream of becoming a Masterfisherman came true earlier this year on the Charlotte Princess as he wrestled a 65 lb spring into the boat. "After an hour the fish finally surfaced...still swimming and pulling away from us, actually pulling the boat. Then suddenly it turned and swam back to the boat. I carefully butterflied the net over the salmon and had him, except it would not fit into the huge salmon net- the tail was still hanging out! Then the fish exploded! I closed the envelope on the net and with a '1, 2, 3,' Molly and I lifted what turned out to be a monster into the boat....I felt like an academy award winner and wanted to thank my dog and cat, etc., but the truth is had it not been for Molly guiding the boat so expertly for an hour, the fish would have been lost. My fishing dream really had come true and with all my heart, I hope all your fishing dreams will come true also." Congratulations Brian!
