Can't Wait Until Next Season!

MV Charlotte Princess - July 20, 2011

Our Charlotte Princess fishing adventure at Langara Island in Haida Gwaii last week was truly one of the best! My son Dan and I team up every couple of years for a trip to the North. Weather co-operated with sun and soft winds, Alaska was highlighted to the West.

My son Dan dragged me out of a sound sleep at 4:00am – oh my! Off to Cohoe Point for the early morning bite and it did not disappoint. Right off the top we had 4 strikes – felt heavy like Chinooks – each threw the hooks. Reset the cut plug – bang another Chinook on, that turned out to be the largest of our 4 day trip – 37 lbs. Wouldn’t you know the Chinook  took Dan’s bait setup. Played heavy and soon was in the net hauled aboard to whoops & hollers!

Fishing continued to improve in quantity. Cohoe to Andrews produced Coho 7 to 9lbs, Andrews some feeder Chinooks 13 – 21 lbs. Next day out to Lacey Island - double header on 21 lb. Chinooks, limited with two more in short order, 20 – 40 pulls with 6oz weights. Moved out a bit and pulled two halibut in 180 feet, top weight for the trip 58 lbs.

200 feet out off the Langara lighthouse proved hot for limits of Yellow eye, Rock fish and Lingcod. Good fishing, good food, good fun. Bruce the new chef kept us well fed, Cookie watched over us and made sure we had regular updates on weather and current catches. Dan & I both made the Captains’ Club with our over 30lb. Chinook and over 50lb. halibut. Can’t wait till next season for another great Charlotte Princess fishing Adventure!
