Zoe – Sous chef
Marina Restaurant, Victoria
I have been working for OBMG at the Marina Restaurant since 2006. I started in the pastry department working with Brian Bradley and then moved onto organizing and preparing the Sunday brunch service before being offered a sous chef position.
There are many reasons why I like my job. The first would have to be the people; it is rare to have so many genuinely friendly people working in one place. The second would be the location. I moved to Vancouver Island from Ontario seven years ago, I love being near the ocean and being able to look at the beautiful view of Mt. Baker from our dining room windows every day. The third reason why I like my job would be the extra travel perks which are available to OBMG employees.
I’m not much into fishing, but my husband and I went on a great wildlife tour at April Point last summer and have stayed at Painters lodge to go mushroom foraging in the fall. It’s rare to find a work environment that has the resources and benefits of a large company, and the friendly camaraderie of a smaller work place. The COO of our company Lanny Sawchuk often waves to me from his office on my way into work, how cool is that!
