Position: Steward
Reports to: Chief Steward
Job Description: Stewards have an extremely important yet low profile job. They are required to keep all aspects of the inner resort looking clean and professional. Although often unseen, the efforts of the Stewards are in constant check and very important to guest satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Stewards are to organize and maintain the inside of the ship.
It is extremely important that Stewards and Deckhands coordinate to maintain the suits so the zippers function, there is no garbage in the pockets and a constant rotation of dry suits and boots are available.
In cooperation with the Chief Steward, this position must communicate the ordering of all dry goods such as syrup, jam, room amenities and all cleaning supplies that directly relate to the stewarding department.
Stewards wash and fold all laundry and wash all of the dishes.
Vacuuming, polishing of the brass, dusting, window washing, garbage removal and stocking fridges are all important tasks.
Stewards also make beds, clean rooms and washrooms and assist the galley wherever possible.
Working Conditions
All Northern Resorts are located in remote areas off the west coast of British Columbia. All crewmembers work seven days a week, 12 hours a day and are paid on a daily rate. Depending on the resort, our season runs approximately 70 to 100 days. During this time it is important for our crew to eat properly and ensure they get adequate amounts of sleep. All room and board is provided at no charge. Each resort has different crew quarters and you may be required to share a room. Timeout, if arranged at the beginning of the season is available for typically 4 to 7 days. Upon the completion of a full season, OBMG will pay each crewmember a bonus of $10 per day worked. This bonus is accumulated and paid out at the end of the season.
