Position: Small Vessel / Outboard Mechanic
Reports to: General Manager / Assistant General Manager
Job Description: Responsible for the efficient and cost effective operation of maintaining, rigging and winterizing a fleet of 45 – 50 boats. Two of which are 18 ft zodiacs with 4 stroke Yamaha outboards. From the end of May to September the successful applicant will travel to the Queen Charlottes aboard the M.V. Salmon Seeker to maintain a fleet of 14, 20 ft. Boston Whaler Outrages with 150 HP Yamaha outboards.
Responsibilities:
· Work with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager to establish operating budgets for marine related budget lines; consequently, the General Manager is responsible for controlling these lines through effective communication with the Outboard Mechanic.
Responsible for regular service to outboard engines, including but not limited to spark plugs, oil change, zincs and gear lube.
Must be able to troubleshoot issues associated with outboards.
Service logs, winterization checklists must be accurately documented on all motors.
Must regularly communicate with outboard dealer concerning troubleshooting, recalls or recurring problems.
It is essential the Outboard Mechanic communicates and educates all guides in season on correct operating and troubleshooting procedures.
Must regularly download motor operations through Yamaha Diagnostic System and report operator based abnormalities to General Manager.
As outboard maintenance is visible to guests, a clean and orderly workstation must be maintained at all times.
It is of the highest priority that Occupational Health and Safety regulations are adhered to during all maintenance activity both on and off OBMG property.
Working Conditions
Will work five days per week from January to the end of May and again from September to December. From May to September the position is seven days per week 12 hours per day based in Kano Inlet in the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Must maintain uniform standards.
Skills
Shall possess a Grade 12 or equivalent.
Must be mechanically inclined and have a sound knowledge of outboard engines.
Must be a self-starter.
Must be physically fit, as lifting will be required.
Must be able to work cooperatively with other crew members.
Must possess a valid BC driver’s licence.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel an asset.
Forklift ticket a bonus.
