Position:                    Second Chef
Reports to:                Captain/Manager
 
Job Description:       Our guests come to the Northern Resorts for one very important reason: to fish. The fishing can fluctuate, but one thing remains consistent within the Oak Bay Marine Group, the food must be of a high standard. The First Chef is responsible for the quality of all meals produced during the course of a trip. This position requires an excellent communicator with a commitment to service, quality and cleanliness in a culinary environment.
 
 
Responsibilities:     
Ÿ     The Second Chef works typically from 10pm to 10 am and is responsible for the preparation of the a la carte breakfast, all baking, desserts for lunch and dinner and soups. Breakfast must also be available for the crew. In addition, the Second Chef prepares all box lunches ordered by the guests for the following day.
Ÿ     This position is to inform the First Chef of all supplies needed to perform their job at the highest level.
Ÿ     Between the First and Second Chef, it is their responsibility to comply with Health Department regulations in the cleanliness of their environment.
 
Working Conditions         
Ÿ     All Northern Resorts are located in remote areas off the west coast of British Columbia. All crewmembers work seven days a week, 12 hours a day and are paid on a daily rate. Depending on the resort, our season runs approximately 70 to 100 days. During this time, it is important for our crew to eat properly and ensure they get adequate amounts of sleep. All room and board is provided at no charge. Each resort has different crew quarters and you may be required to share a room. Timeout, if arranged at the beginning of the season, is available for typically 4 to 7 days. Upon the completion of a full season, Oak Bay Marine Group will pay each crewmember a bonus of $10 per day worked. This bonus is accumulated and paid out at the end of the season. 
 
Skills 
Ÿ     Two year Culinary Arts Diploma
Ÿ     Food Safe Level 1 and 2
Ÿ     Pleasure Craft Operator
Ÿ     Seafarer’s Medical Examination for MV Salmon Seeker, MV Marabell and MV Charlotte Princess.
Ÿ     WHMIS or TDG
Ÿ     BONUS CERTIFICATIONS: MED - Basic Safety Training (BST), Survival Craft (SC), Radio Operators Certificate (ROC-M), Occupational First Aid, Level 1 or 3 (OFA 3)
