OBMG Northern Resorts ~ Job Description

Position:          Fishmaster
Reports to:                Captain/Manager

Job Description:       Our guests come to the Northern Resorts for one very important reason: to fish. The Fishmaster plays an extremely important and visible role during the course of a trip. Ultimately the Fishmaster is to supervise all the outside operations of the resort, while maintaining the guest’s success on the water. When it comes to fishing, this position needs to be aware of the guest’s needs and see that it is taken care of in a professional manner. This leadership position requires an excellent communicator with a commitment to service and quality.

Responsibilities:
Ÿ     Each morning the Fishmaster is responsible to do a weather check on all fishing grounds, thereby determining the open and closed areas for our guests.
Ÿ     The Fishmaster is ultimately responsible for the operation of the docks. This position must ensure the Deckhands are taking care to the guests needs, their boats are equipped, organized and clean and fish processed to their request.
Ÿ     It is the responsibility of the Fishmaster to review guest manifests for potential New Frontier’s candidates. In the event that someone needs more attention than the average guest, the Fishmaster will ensure they are taken care of by either himself or a Deckhand. They will spend time on the water until the guest is fully comfortable with all safety regulations and proper fishing techniques.
Ÿ     During the course of a trip it is important for the Fishmaster to know the current fishing conditions and continually relay that information to guests. This position is to do boat checks throughout the day, and offer assistance if need be.
Ÿ     This position is responsible for recapping the day’s events in a speech after dinner. At this time, the Fishmaster must inquire on any difficulties the guests may have had during the day. This typically leads to a short seminar on halibut fishing or cut plug techniques.
Ÿ     During changeover, the Fishmaster must oversee the deckhands to ensure all fish is properly boxed and labeled for shipment.
Ÿ     At the end of the trip the Fishmaster and Captain will present a gift to the guest with the largest catch.

Working Conditions
All Northern Resorts are located in remote areas off the west coast of British Columbia. All crewmembers work seven days a week, 12 hours a day and are paid on a daily rate. Depending on the resort, our season runs approximately 70 to 100 days. During this time it is important for our crew to eat properly and ensure they get adequate amounts of sleep. All room and board is provided at no charge. Each resort has different crew quarters and you may be required to share a room. Timeout, if arranged at the beginning of the season is available for typically 4 to 7 days. Upon the completion of a full season, OBMG will pay each crewmember a bonus of $10 per day worked. This bonus is accumulated and paid out at the end of the season.
