Tyee Fishing… as Pure as Fishing Gets
Like clockwork, it happens every year. The excitement of summer and early fall mesh to create a season of its own. A season where dedicated fishermen gather at the mouth of the Campbell River in the legendary Tyee Pools. The only sounds you’ll hear are screaming reels and shouts of encouragement. No fancy equipment and no motors are allowed in this classic fishery, just rowboats. If it’s over 30 lbs., it’s a Tyee, but catching one isn’t easy. Some say the rewards aren’t worth it; but it’s much sweeter because the challenge is greater. You’ll earn your membership to the exclusive club and be a part of a great tradition created in 1925. Tyee fishing is available at both Painter’s Lodge and April Point Resort & Spa.
Raw. Remote. Remarkable… Extreme Fishing at Its Finest.
Beyond here lie monsters, or so the ancient maps would say of the remote location of the MV Salmon Seeker, Oak Bay Marine Group’s floating fishing resort anchored in Kano Inlet on the west side of the Queen Charlotte Islands. This guided experience is so remote that the only other fishing boats you’ll see are other MV Salmon Seeker guests. And oh, what a fishing experience. Non-stop action on actively feeding salmon with guests releasing 30 pound fish, knowing that there are bigger ones out there. Wrenching monster halibut from the deep, catching fish bigger than you happens on numerous occasions through the MV Salmon Seeker’s season. It’s saltwater salmon fishing at its finest, and not for the faint of heart.
“The What Capital of the World?”
“The Salmon Capital of the World.” It’s Campbell River, British Columbia, where the salmon is an essential part of life. Bathed in a rich tradition of both commercial and recreational salmon fishing, Campbell River has evolved with the cycle of the migrating salmon. The nutrient rich waters of the Discovery Passage welcome salmon every year as they journey to their spawning grounds. People, bears, orca, even eagles gather to enjoy the bounty. World-famous Painter’s Lodge has evolved around the salmon runs, welcoming anglers and vacationers alike to try their hand at catching these magnificent fish as well as enjoying the variety of wildlife that calls this area home.
If Women Ruled the World
Filleting salmon would be taught in home economics, the ideal anniversary present would be a rod and reel, and tall tales of fishing would be considered gossip. Just ask the 110 women who come to Painter’s Lodge from all over North America once a year to compete in the Annual Women’s Derby. From housewives to lawyers, teenagers to grandmothers, fishing is not only the passion that brings women together, it also sets them apart. It’s not just fishing at Painter’s Lodge that brings out the ladies - they love the challenge that the remote waters of the Queen Charlotte Islands provide. The Oak Bay Marine Group’s northern resorts are what separate the ‘reel’ women from the girls.
