The Fish'n Chicks will gather for their 17th year at the Annual Painter’s Lodge Women’s Derby – June 19-22, 2009
Campbell River, British Columbia - Every June, women from all over North America women leave behind their busy lives to participate in a 4-day weekend of fishing and extreme fun. While great prizes are part of the derby, it's the lure of camaraderie and friendship that keep these women coming back year after year. The ladies know they're attending a special event that celebrates and showcases women who not only want to fish, but to also prove they can fish and have fun doing it!
The idea of hosting a women-only derby at Painter’s Lodge was born in 1992 when a group of conference planners and travel agents got together for a weekend at Painter’s Lodge. At the end of the weekend, the women had out-fished the men and one participant suggested a Women’s Derby. We immediately got to work. By early 1993, all 110 spaces were booked. Since then, the Women’s Derby continues to be a runaway success.
Painter’s Lodge is the perfect spot to host this angling adventure. With fishing grounds just outside our backdoor in the Discovery Passage, these sheltered waters have made the area legendary as "The Salmon Capital of the World." Experience guides take you to where the fish are and give you the best chance to hooking into the top prize.
When you're not on the water, our ladies dress-up in style for theme nights and during the day they take advantage of the many amenities that Painter’s Lodge and her sister resort, April Point Resort & Spa have to offer. Experience kayaking, scooters, whale watching, ocean rapids tours or just relax beside the heated outdoor pool.
Great fishing, a fantastic facility and warm hospitality are all part of the success of this annual weekend event but the real reason why this derby has grown in popularity over the years is simply the same as it has been for years. It is the spirit and enthusiasm of the women who come and participate!
