The Bob Wright Centre
Oak Bay Marine Group’s $11 million donation to the University of Victoria
Victoria, BC. Although cold and rainy in November, the Oak Bay Marine Group had a great reason to celebrate and cheer as the University of Victoria officially opened the Bob Wright Centre for Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
“The new Bob Wright Centre showcases our position as a global centre of excellence in ocean, earth and atmospheric research,” said David Turpin, president of University of Victoria. “We are grateful to Bob Wright, whose visions and generosity has made this building a reality.”

The centre will provide a home for the university’s renowned climate change researchers and state-of-the-art teaching facilities for undergraduate students in the science and astronomy fields.
This donation, the largest single gift to the University of Victoria, is not only a gift from Bob Wright, President & CEO of Oak Bay Marine Group but from the entire OBMG crew, who have dedicated themselves to providing a quality experience to the thousands of guests that have chosen to visit OBMG’s marinas, restaurants, resorts and attractions.
“It is wonderful to see the results of my passion go to such a good cause,” said Bob Wright. “In the midst of tremendous economic uncertainty, we have more questions than answers regarding our environment and future. It is my hope that this contribution will assist the best and the brightest at UVic as they search for answers, not just on Vancouver Island, but on the planet.”

“I am very proud of our team and thank them for their support, which made this donation possible,” Wright stated. “It’s the generosity of our guests who continue to visit our resorts, restaurants and attractions over the past decades that have made this company what is. This donation recognizes their continued support and, for that, I am grateful.”
